How the Dual-HomeBase System Works
Eight wired cameras are split across two HomeBase 3 units. Each hub records its assigned cameras to its own local drive; the router/Wi-Fi network handles setup, app access and local connectivity.

What Happens When the Network Drops?
Internet outage — recording can continue
If the router loses Internet access but the cameras and HomeBase units remain powered and their local recording path remains available, recordings can continue locally. The important distinction is that remote app access and cloud-dependent features may be unavailable while local storage keeps working.
Wi-Fi/LAN failure — different situation
If the failure is the local wireless/network path used by the cameras or HomeBase, behavior depends on the camera's local-storage path. Do not describe the system as “network-proof”: a local Wi-Fi failure can interrupt a camera-to-HomeBase recording path even though the Internet itself is down.
- Power is the first dependency. A power outage stops powered cameras/HomeBases unless they are protected by UPS or another backup source.
- HomeBase local storage is the retention layer. Eufy documents HomeBase 3 continuous recording for supported wired cameras and requires an installed hard drive for continuous recordings from IndoorCam devices.
- The app is not the recorder. Loss of Internet can prevent remote viewing/alerts, even while locally stored footage continues to accumulate.
- Ethernet is preferable for HomeBase 3. Eufy specifically recommends Ethernet when enabling 24/7 recording for indoor cameras because HomeBase Wi-Fi/repeater mode can affect continuous-recording playback.
24/7 Recording Strengths & Weaknesses
Strengths
- Two HomeBase 3 units split eight wired cameras into two four-camera continuous-recording groups.
- Local HDD storage avoids dependence on a subscription for the recording archive.
- HomeBase 3 supports expandable local storage up to 16 TB per unit.
- Local recording provides resilience against an Internet-service outage when the recording path and power remain up.
Weaknesses / design limits
- Eufy limits a HomeBase 3 to a maximum of four wired devices that support continuous recording at the same time, so the eight-camera design needs two hubs.
- Indoor Cam E220 continuous recordings stored by HomeBase 3 are 1080p rather than the camera's 2K event-recording resolution.
- The S350 is specified by Eufy as an indoor camera and is not weather-resistant; outdoor deployment should therefore be treated as a hardware mismatch.
- Two HomeBase disks do not form one redundant/pooled recording array. Failure of one hub or its disk affects the cameras assigned to that hub.
- Continuous recording consumes storage much faster than motion-only/event recording, so retention is measured in days/weeks/months rather than indefinitely.
Estimated Recording Loop Time
The table below is a planning estimate, not a guaranteed Eufy retention figure. Eufy reports about 120 hours per 128 GB for an S350 at its highest continuous-recording quality. For the six E220 feeds, this page uses an approximately 2 Mbps planning bitrate for their 1080p HomeBase continuous stream. Actual retention varies with quality settings, encoding, scene activity and storage overhead.

*Planning model: two S350 streams at ~2.37 Mbps each (derived from Eufy's 128 GB / 120-hour S350 example) plus six E220 HomeBase continuous streams at ~2 Mbps each. This is deliberately presented as an estimate; Eufy does not publish a single fixed bitrate that guarantees a particular retention time for this exact eight-camera mix.
Hardware Note Before Deployment
The current hardware list needs one important review: the Eufy Indoor Cam S350 is an indoor-only camera, and Eufy lists it as not weather resistant. If the two cameras truly need permanent outdoor exposure, substitute an outdoor-rated Eufy model rather than relying on the S350 under an overhang. The existing cost figures below are retained from the supplied HTML rather than replaced with current retail pricing.
